The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of issues that shape the management of environmental efforts in industry and how companies manage to change, rethink and reorganize their activities.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
Explain and analyse how corporate sustainability creates new questions, dilemmas and insecurities that companies lack experience, knowledge and routine to manage
Examine a companys strategic choices of activities to guide the greening and change process of the company
Use theories and concepts to explain a companys greening process
Analyse a companys alignment in relation to the environmental challenge and preparedness for the future
Examine a companys strategic communication of the greening and change process of the company
Investigate alignment, strategic choices and communication for the greening process of companies in a sector and compare the arguments for creating sustainable values and business models.
Content
The course is focused on the corporate environmental management and the societal context of the corporate environmental management (stake holders, environmental legislation etc), the starting points for the environmental work (incentives, environmental strategies etc). The environmental work is analysed with the help of different tools to understand the governance of the environmental work (environmental management systems, environmental revision, environmental accounting etc). The course includes a project and guest lectures. The course is student centered and blended where group activities are in-class and lectures online.
