Aim
The course aims to provide students with opportunities to develop their entrepreneurial abilities. This is done by treating markets, marketing and basic economics as topics within this course.
Sections on markets aim to give students opportunities to understand key areas of markets, how characteristics on markets affect the conditions for product design as well as basic models for how work with marketing can be designed.
Economic sections of the course is designed to give the student the opportunity to learn basic financial terminology, financial relationships and calculating.
Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Explain basic concepts in economics and marketing.
- Be able to describe and use economic relations.
- Describe what essential information about markets is needed before a product launch (the product can be both goods and services).
- Explain what a marketing plan is.
- Explain and summerize the differences between different types of markets.
- Describe steps and activities in market work, and exemplify how the design of this work is connected with market characteristics.
- Perform financial calculations for products, decisions and investments.
- Interpret, evaluate and describe the company's economic reports.
- Reflect on group dynamics when implementing projects.
Content
Three areas will be central to the course.The first of these deals with the marketing efforts related to corporate production. Market characteristics affect what the company can do and what constitutes a market is dealt with during the course. Different types of markets and their special features are also treated. Connected to these different types of markets is also the work on these also discussed as well as how this can be adapted to different situations.
A second part processes basic financial terms and calculations for different decision situations. The area includes cost-volume-profit planning, differential costing, full costing and calculations for investments.
The third part addresses financial and management accounting and the interpretation of this. The relationship between profit and loss account, the balance sheets and cash flows are processed. Financial ratios and other ways to interpret financial statements is presented.
Some activities connected to industry interaction is, commonly, part of the course.
Organisation
Learning activities in the course consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars, projects and presentations. Some of these may be mandatory. Mandatory occations will be listed in the detailed schedule published on the course website two weeks before the course starts.Throughout the course, a project will be carried out, group wise, to attain deeper processing of the theoretical content. The presentation of the project will take place in such way that the course coordinator determines appropriate at the course start (orally, in writing, records, or combinations). Students carrying out opposition to each other's project implementation can occur if the coordinator considers it appropriate.

To be listed on the course activity (webpage) two weeks before the course starts.All materials, including lectures and other learning activities is included in the course and can be included in the examination.
Examination including compulsory elements
The examination has three parts with two reportings to LADOK. The three parts is:
- Preparation and active participation in the mandatory elements, such as mandatory practice sessions,
- Implementation of a project, goup wise and
- Reaching an approved grade on a exam.
For a final approved grade is an approved mark in each of the parts needed. Grades are given in the scale Fail 3, 4 and 5 based on exam results.
All litterature and material from lectures, seminars and exercises is part of the course and is part of the examination.
There are room for alternative examination methods in special cases.
The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
