Course specific prerequisites
A minimum of 5 credits (5hp) of courses within the topic environment and sustainable development (MHU).Aim
The course provides the students with opportunity to apply knowledge about sustainability and IT in the context of real-world challenges confronting businesses and other organisations. The course aims to give the students experience of creating group projects and to initiate collaboration with businesses and other organisations. The course aims to develop the students understanding of how to collaborate with actors without IT expertise to generate useful outcomes that improve sustainability.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
After completion of this course, the student should be able to- Explain how IT-innovation can contribute to sustainable development.
- Account for theoretical perspectives on IT-innovation in relation to the ecological, economical and social sustainability of businesses and other organisations.
- Initiate and develop collaboration with an external stakeholder (a business or organisation) for a group project.
- Apply information technology methods and tools and knowledge about sustainability and innovation to conduct a problem analysis.
- Apply information technology methods and tools and knowledge about sustainability and innovation to outline of conceptual proposals.
- Present project outcomes orally and in writing for an audience without IT-expertise.
- Reflect upon the factors impacting on the outcomes of the group project.
Content
A theory part focussing on literature, that develops the conceptual understanding of green IT, sustainable development and innovation concepts.A group project, where the students, working in groups together with representatives of a company or other organisation, with the support of teachers, analyse how new IT solutions could improve sustainability.
Collaborative writing of a project report in an iterative process, with comments and revisions of drafts, until a final version is ready to share with the stakeholder.
Organisation
The course contains introductory lectures, seminar discussions, supervision and a presentation of the group project.Literature

The examination is divided into two parts:- Written examination of 3 hp which deals with the themes presented in the introductory module, primarily pertaining to learning outcomes 1, 2 och 7.
- A project consisting in 4,5 hp primarily pertaining to learning outcomes 4-6.
The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
