Aim

The course aim is to provide basic understanding in economic functions, terms and theories and to impart theoretical and practical knowledge about managerial economics. The course also aims to prepare participation in a case-related work.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

- use foundational terminology within managerial economics - apply foundational models within budgeting, product calculation and investment calculation - choose appropriate relevant model in various situations - be able to use excel in a relevant way within course topics

Content

- Introduction to economic analysis - Cashflow- income- and balance sheet budgeting and how they are interrelated - Foundation product calculation and handling of indirect costs - Capital budgeting and time value of money - Foundational knowledge in excel

Organisation

- Lectures and exercises, supported by scheduled consultations - Mandatory guest lectures with individual reflections - Mandatory exercises and hand-ins in excel

Examination including compulsory elements

The course is examined by written examination. The grades are set based on the result of the written examination and on the project report. Grades U (=failed), 3-5 are used.

The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
