Course specific prerequisites
This is a high-pace, challenging and rewarding graduate course open to all Chalmers students that are up to date with basic concepts of business administration and microeconomics. An absolute minimum requirement is a basic course such as TEK255 (Managerial Economics), but students are expected to perform at a graduate level from day one. Students that lack such knowledge are expected to take necessary measures to be able to contribute to case work and class discussions. Students from master programs given by the Department of Technology Management and Economics are automatically eligible (but not necessarily prepared). Students admitted to MPMEI (Management and Economics of Innovation, MSc program) are given prioritized placement.Aim
This course aims to prepare students for different types of management tasks related to technology and innovation. This is done by making the students familiar with a set of theories and tools used for strategic management of innovation and technology. Besides theoretical understanding, a major ambition of the course is to teach students how to analyze and deal with complex innovation related challenges typically faced by managers. Such challenges may include issues related to the role of science in society, both in terms of what can be done technically, and what should be done ethically. This is accomplished through case analyses, project work and guest lectures.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

The purpose of this course is to train students in strategy analysis. Strategy analysis deals with the identification of problems, options and solutions that improve firm performance. The course is concerned with decisions and actions that shape the future of firms by establishing, sustaining and enhancing the basis for their competitive advantage. The course will discuss fundamental strategy theories and models and illustrate their use through case discussions. The ultimate aim of the course is to help you work more effectively and successfully in your professional careers.Organisation

The examination consists of (a) a written exam and (b) case studies. Grading: U (Fail), 3, 4, 5.The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
