Course specific prerequisites
-Aim
This course will teach students an advanced topic in biomedical engineering. The specific topic of the course will vary between years.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Describe state of the art in the sub-area of biomedical engineering selected for study
- Show deep knowledge in the sub-area of biomedical engineering selected for study
- Independently perform a research prestudy, in the form of a limited research assignment.
- Independently analyze the results from the study and evaluate the potential of the proposed research project.
- Utilise skills and knowledge from a variety of subjects for investigating a complex question, problem or challenge
Content
This is a project-based course. In this course, each student will work on a project in different topics in biomedical engineering. The specific topics of the projects will vary between years. All projects contain:- Literature review
- Project work within the sub-area
- Written report
- Oral presentation of project
Organisation
Different projects and sub-areas that will be studied in the course will be introduced at the first lecture. Each student will study on one sub-area in biomedical engineering. The aim is to learn and deepen the knowledge in this sub-area. The studies will be organized in the form of project work, including literature review. Supervision will be given. Each project will be carried out by a group of 2-4 students and completed with a written report and an oral presentation.Literature
The course material is different for each sub-area.Relevant course material will be introduced during the first introductory lecture.
It is possible, after agreeing with the examiner, to define and to conduct a self defined project. Appropriate supervisor must be available, and in the case of self-defined projects, it is the student's responsibility to ensure that.
Examination including compulsory elements
The grading will be based on the written project report and the oral presentation. The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
