Basic courses in random processes, data communication, and computer networks are recommended.Aim
This course focuses on wireless data communications including wireless Internet. The students acquire knowledge into the current and future state-of-the-art of technology in the field of wireless communications. Another goal of the course is to ensure that student can explain the impact of commercial, political, and regulatory factors on the design of wireless systems. The course will treat current relevant technologies, and the exact content may change from year to year.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Explain how wireless systems should be designed to successfully carry various information
- Explain the fundamentals about wireless security
- Describe the main technologies used in modern wireless network to provide QoS and fairness
- Describe the most important standardization and spectrum regulation bodies, how they interact, and how they impact the design of technical systems
- Write a report about a current hot topic by identifying and studying the appropriate literature
- Orally present an overview of the literature covering a current hot topic.

Organisation
The course is comprised of approximately 18 lectures, workshops, and one project related to a current hot topic. A significant part of the lectures are guest lectures given by industry experts. This is complemented by more lectures on fundamentals given by academics.

Examination including compulsory elements
The final grade (TH) is based on scores from the project, quizzes, and the written exam. The project, quizzes and the written exam are mandatory in the sense that they must be passed to pass the course.
The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
