Course specific prerequisites

At least 60 credits from the Nautical science programme and at least 120 days of on board training with a nautical profile.

Aim

The aim of the course is to provide the student with a general understanding for the interaction group/individual/head/leader and the function and framework of organisations.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

- Describe group dynamics and conditions for collective action
- Describe how leadership is framed in formal organizations
- Explain leadership theories in relationship to management
- Explain the basic gender aspects
- Describe cultural differences
- Account for possible ethical dilemmas in organizations
- Account for labor law and labor law sources
- Describe the employment contract form and function
- Apply basic labor law regulations
- Describe safety legislation
- Describe MLC and marine safety legislation
