Aim
The purpose of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the business side of shipping companies and how the international maritime markets works.
Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Explain and use basic economical concepts
- Preform investment calculation
- Describe the trade routes of world trade
- Explain market cycles and the four shipping markets
- Give example and explain the stakeholders in shipping.
- Perform voyage calculations and voyage results.
- Explain the chartering forms, especially the responsibilities and cost division
- Describe the different parts of a shipping company's Safety Management System(SMS)
- Summarize the function of the ISM-code in shipping - Describe the concept of social sustainability and ethical responsibility within shipping
- Create a voyage calculation in a computer based calculation software i.e. Microsoft Excel
