To give all students who take part in the safety organisation on-board ships knowledge about basic safety, before the student join the crew of ships, and practically use the theoretical knowledge on-board practice vessels.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
(L1) Apply survival techniques in the event of abandon ship, such as::Manage personal survival equipment
Actions to be taken when required to abandon ship
(L2) Apply basic actions of fire prevention and fire fighting on board such as::
Apply appropriate extinguishing equipment based on type of fire
Conduct search and rescue exercises in smoke-filled environment
(L3) Operate location devices, including radio equipment, signaling apparatus and pyrotechnics.
(L4) Explain basic knowledge of shipping's impact on the marine environment and the impact of operational and accidental pollution.
(L5) Manage survival craft after abondoning ship:
Take charge of a survival craft.
Operating a survival craft engine
(L6) Explain basic knowledge of threats and maintaining maritime security.
(L7) Explain how dangers and threats can be detected and what measures should be taken on board.
(L8) Apply first aid in the event of accident or illness on board
(L9) Apply bystander intervention in order to achieve a good and safe working environment

The course

Organisation
Teaching is divided into a series of lectures and exercises and at the training facilityExercises at the training facility is not carried out at Chalmers campus. All learning activities are mandatory.
