Aim
The purpose of this course is to establish sufficient knowledge in stability enabling correct actions in an emergency or incident in order to save crew, ship and cargo.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Describe the parties who are involved in a grounding- Describe the steps one should take in the first stage after an incident
- Identify and understand the GZ-curve change at water ingress
- Perform the calculations required to determine the force with which a ship is aground
- Define stability-changing concepts and their impact on a ship at sea
Content
- Basic stability (repeat)- Damage stability
- Actions taking by accidents - report reviews
- Dynamic stability, concepts and examples
- GZ curve - interpretations of and change during accidents, dry docking etc.
Organisation
The course consists of lectures, mandatory simulator session and ends through several mandatory Quizzes.Literature
