The course aims to provide basic knowledge about machinery on ships. Machinery is in this regard to be understood as both mechanical and electrical systems.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Give examples of different types of powertrains for merchant vessels.
- Identify and describe the various subsystems of a ship engine.
- Explain the basic construction of a diesel engine and its peripheral systems.
- Describe the basic factors that govern the maintenance of a diesel engine with peripheral systems.
