Course specific prerequisites

MPP056 Sketching and modelling Techniques or similar.

Aim

The aim is to provide knowledge and skills to translate sketches into a foundation for presentations in a way that is relevant for the product, context and observer. Furthermore the course aims to promote creative and effective sketching as a natural tool in all phases of the PD-process.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

  • Sketch/picture people in relevance to objects and events.
  • Analyse and sketch product ideas individually but also put in a context in order to verify and present ideas at a concept level
  • Evaluate and adapt the sketch to various levels of receivers in the PD-process.
  • Use software that handles vector graphics, text and pixelated images in order to make simple but sharp presentations for both print and digital use.

Content

  • Training to sketch objects/products in relation to other objects/products, environments and people in a convincing manner and with an appropriate level of detailing
  • In-depth training in how to develop the ability to sketch quickly and to adapt the sketch to the various levels of receivers and stages of the PD-process.
  • The use and practice of software that handles vector graphics, text and pixelated images in order to make elementary presentations in various medias.
  • Exercise in oral presentation.
  • Studies of nude model

Organisation

The course includes lectures and seminars, seminar assignments and individual exercises on a weekly basis.

Examination including compulsory elements

Grades are given according to the scale: pass and fail

In order to pass, active participation in lectures and seminars, approved assignments and approved final presentation (portfolio) are required.

The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
