Basic eligibility

Aim

The course aims to give basic knowledge about the most important manufacturing processes and operation planning for numerically controlled machines.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

- describe the most common manufacturing processes - carry out calculations in order to design the tooling and choose a machine tool -perform a basic computer aided operations plan of a 3D component

Content

-basic plasticity theory -metal forming methods as forging, extrusion, sheet metal forming  etc. -metal cutting with adherent lab -methodoly for operations planning: manually (tool selection etc) with adherent assignment, as well as CAM with adherent computer exercise -machine tools -NC technology

Organisation

The course includes lectures, exercises, laboratory work, an assignment and computer exercises. The lab deals with machining. The assignment deals with tool selection and cost calculation of a simple part. Computer exercises deal with process and computer-aided preparation (CAM).
