Aim
The aim of this course is to provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed for effective chartering, operation and management of ships.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Write a shipping company's policy of health, safety, quality and sustainable develpment for fulfilling laws, guidelines and contribution to UN's sustainability goals 3.5 and 3.8.- Correct use of shipping terms, shipping forms and related cost.
- Interpret the clauses in the charter contract that affects the voyage performance (laycan, notice time, Notice Of Readiness etc) both for time charter and voyage charter.
- Calculate voyage results. Comparing voyage alternatives and comparing estimate with result.
- Operate the ship (bunker management, voyage instructions, invoicing etc) and relate to voyage results.
- Calculate laytime and demurrage for dry cargo and tank, based on relevant clauses in the charterparty.
- Explain ship management organisation and functions based on Shipman.
In the concluding simulation of the group project skills are trained and enhanced skills to collaborate, distribute work and to react through the following learning outcomes:
- Charter and operate ships (negotiate, nominate agents, order bunker, calculate eta/ets)
