The aim is to give an introduction to general cargo operations (ship types and cargo gear), basic ship stability and multimodal transport of dangerous goods (road, railway, air and sea transports) in order to be able to in a commercial way operate a ship and its cargo. Courses within cargo handling aims to keep transports in general as safe and protective as possible for the environment and society bearing in mind the UN Sustainable Development Goals number 5, 12 och 14.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Recite different ship types and its cargo gear - Describe a ships main dimensions and recite basic ship stability - Describe displacement, trim and draught - Define dangerous goods as per UN-criteria - Recite how to pack, stow, segregate and document dangerous goods in conjunction to transport - Describe the safe handling of cargoes in respect of their properties and expected climate during the voyage - Relate to applicable legislation regarding cago handling in generalContent

The starts with ships dimensions and basic ship stability followed by multi-modal transportation of dangerous goods.All hours are lectures, but during some lectures there will be tutorials and cargo planning exercises.
