The aim of the project is to give a deeper knowledge of the role, workings and requirements of a classification society and its interface with regulations.
Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Explain the classification society's role and task.
- Relate to the rules governing the classification society working
- Explain the purpose of classification of a ship
- Understanding delegation and relationships between flag states, classification societies and intergovernmental bodies
- Able to organize and carry out inspection of class certificates and statutory certificates.
- Constitute a competent part at surveys, representing owner, flag state or classification society
- Explain functions in safety management systems
- Use safety Convention for finding requirements on vessels.
- Explain purpose and function of port state control

Lecture material and regulatory texts will be uploaded to pingpong after each lecture.Examination including compulsory elements
Written presentation of project work in English.
Knowledge test on previous lecture, total score for grading.
SOLAS-test, for approval, not less than 50% correct answer. At failed test, a new test will be held at re-exam period.
To produce a fire safety plan and perform a fire plan safety test on Canvas with not less than 70% correct answer.
