Aim
The purpose of the course is to prepare the students to use English as a working language by focusing on a number of professional situations which the students are likely to meet in their future working life, and that are likely to demand a high level of English proficiency and good communicative skills in speech and writing. The course focuses on enabling the students to prepare and carry out professional work in English.
Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
Prepare relevant documents for professional purposes, e.g. a popular science text.
Adapt and present information for oral communication contexts.
Structure information in a CV to make a strong impression.
Content
The course includes both written and oral exercises. Written exercises include for example writing a popular science text and a CV. Oral exercises include an oral presentation of the material from the popular science text, meetings, and class discussions.
Organisation
The course is organised in lectures and workshops of two hours during the study period. This is a blended learning course, and therefore some sessions will take place online.
Literature
Material is distributed in class as well as via the course web site.
Examination including compulsory elements
All compulsory written and oral assignments should achieve a passing mark.
The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
