Aim

The aim of the course is to attain basic knowledge of drawing technique and about computer based methods to describe three dimensional objects. The course is of very central importance for a machine engineer as all existing and new products require a description of the geometry.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

After completion of this course the student will have skills in:
  • basic layout of drawings as views, cross sections, simplified representation of objects.
  • linear tolerances and fits.
  • surface finish and welding symbols.
  • reading drawings.
  • create CAD-models and see the possibilities by the use of a modern CAD-program.
Furthermore, the student will receive basic knowledge of geometric tolerances.

Content

This course in computer aided design provides training in basic drawing techniques. Furthermore, a CAD program is used to create solids. The course covers the basic functions needed to use the program to create part models, drawings and assemblies.

Organisation

The course consists of lectures, drawing exercises and CAD exercises in smaller groups with supervision.

Literature

Information of the course literature will be given when the course starts.

Examination including compulsory elements

Passed in-course written exam (Dugga) in drawing technique and approved assignments in CAD.

The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
