Eligibility
General entry requirements for bachelor's level (first cycle)Applicants enrolled in a programme at Chalmers where the course is included in the study programme are exempted from fulfilling the requirements above.
Specific entry requirements
The same as for the programme that owns the course.Applicants enrolled in a programme at Chalmers where the course is included in the study programme are exempted from fulfilling the requirements above.
Course specific prerequisites
The courses LMA401 Calculus, MVE580 Linear algebra and differential equations, LMT202 Mechanics, TME255 Strength of materials and LMA017 Mathematical analysis in several variables, or corresponding knowledge.Aim
The course in plane rigid body dynamics is aiming towards an understanding of the basic equations of motions for plane rigid bodies and to numerically analyze a complex system using Matlab.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Derive the equations of motions for a system in general plane motion, by using the general laws of motion.
- Analyze the dynamics of rigid bodies i two dimensions (and system of bodies) theoretically, and also numerically by using the computer program MATLAB.
Content
The course contains vibrations of systems with one degree of freedom, dynamics of rigid bodies in two dimensions, systems of bodies and numerical solution of dynamical problems using MATLAB. A mandatory project is included in the course. If this project is approved before the ordinary exam, the student will get 10 bonus points to use in the three exams that belongs to the course.Organisation
The course contains 60 h of theory and problem solving lectures (integrated) and 140h of home work including a project work.Literature
Ragnar Grahn, Per-Åke Jansson, Mikael Enelund, Mekanik, Studentlitteratur, fourth edition.Examination including compulsory elements
Written exam containing 5 excercises with grades: not passed, 3, 4, 5, and approved project work. The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
