Eligibility
General entry requirements for Master's level (second cycle)Applicants enrolled in a programme at Chalmers where the course is included in the study programme are exempted from fulfilling the requirements above.
Specific entry requirements
English 6 (or by other approved means with the equivalent proficiency level)Applicants enrolled in a programme at Chalmers where the course is included in the study programme are exempted from fulfilling the requirements above.
Course specific prerequisites
BSc degree in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or similar, and any prerequisite knowledge required for the individual project, as judged by the examiner and the supervisor of the project.Aim
The course should make it possible for students to carry out an individual project, on a graduate level, at an academic institute, in industry, or in other sectors of society. In the course, the student shall integrate, deepen and develop his/her knowledge within a limited area of chemical engineering. The project aims to give the student knowledge and skill in scientific and engineering work, and to make the student acquainted with an environment which is representative for a part of the future labor market.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- formulate and limit the scope of a problem within the chosen subject area
- plan the work to solve and report the problem with given resources
- search, read and evaluate available literature and other background information
- integrate and develop knowledge and skill within the chosen problem
- execute laboratory, theoretical or modeling work to reach the goals of the project
- collect and interpret laboratory, theoretical or modeling results
- communicate the project results and how these meet the project goals and effect goals, in a written report and at an oral presentation
Content
The content of the project may vary, but must be defined at the start of the project. The project should be oriented towards research and development.Organisation
The project can be carried out at an academic institution, within a suitable industry or similar. There must be a responsible supervisor, who should give the student the support necessary for the execution of the project within the given framework. It is up to the individual student to organize the specific project, in collaboration with the intended supervisor. The content and organization of the project must be approved by the examiner and the supervisor prior to the startup of the project work.Literature
The student is expected to, in collaboration with the supervisor, acquire the necessary literature for executing the project and evaluating the project results.Examination including compulsory elements
The project is examined by a written project report, and by an oral presentation of the project at a seminar. The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
