Aim
The aim of the course is to supply the student with skills on how to plan, implement and evaluate simulation studies. The course should give an insight in when simulation is a suitable method of choice, i.a. depending on the problem at issue and available resources., and also when alternative approaches are preferable. The focus of the course id discrete-event simulation but there is also an aim to give an overview of the possibilities of the field of simulation in general. A central theme of the course is modeling with the emphasis of how to design and develop valid model of real systems.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- conclude in a specific problem situation if simulation is a advisable method of analysis,
- within the context of a simulation study, formulate a relevant problem statement,
- design a project plan for a simulation study,
- select suitable data collection techniques,
- translate data to input data models,
- build simple models by a simulation software,
- verify a computerized simulation model,
- validate a simulation model,
- plan and perform an experiment,
- present and communicate the planning, implementation and results of a simulation project both in writing and orally,
- critically review and oppose other students' work, in writing as well as orally and both individually and in groups.

- data modeling,
- model translation,
- verification,
- validation,
- design of experiments.

The course includes lectures, exercises,a case and a short written test.Literature

The examination consist of: a written test and oral and written reporting of exercises and case assignment.The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
