Eligibility
General entry requirements for bachelor's level (first cycle)Applicants enrolled in a programme at Chalmers where the course is included in the study programme are exempted from fulfilling the requirements above.
Specific entry requirements
The same as for the programme that owns the course.Applicants enrolled in a programme at Chalmers where the course is included in the study programme are exempted from fulfilling the requirements above.
Course specific prerequisites
The course build on courses given earlier in the computer and electro engineering programs of relevance for the task on hand. To take part in the course the student must have 90 hec from the program.Aim
The course shall give insight and experience of the tasks involved in the planning and carrying through of a relatively extensive project in hard- and/or software like distribution of tasks, coordination and corporation within the group and when needed with other groups. The work involves both the organization and leading of the project and the development of the product as such. Another aim is to give sufficient knowledge in the formulation of problems, searching for information, reporting, documentation and other areas relevant to the upcoming thesis work. The course shall give the student practical experience form working in a project group when it comes to planning, construction, implementation and verification of a non-trivial system of hard- and/or software.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
identify and formulate a project assignment distribute roles within the group and develop rules for corporation make a time plan identify required knowledge and find the relevant information develop and evaluate suggestions for solutions to the problem at hand, carry through the development process and evaluate the solutions handle oral and written presentationsContent
Working in a project: Besides the task at hand the work will train the students in creating a specification for the assignment and plan and lead the project
Information search
The writing of reports and oral presentation
Organisation
The projects are run in groups of 4 - 8 students. Every project group has a orderer and a main tutor. Each student choose a project assignment from a list of projects on offer and can also give his/her own proposals. Projects groups of 4-8 students are formed. The group, together with the orderer, creates a specification of the demands on the project, the product is developed and in some cases constructed. The work will finish with an oral and written presentation according to rules given within the course. Throughout the project each student shall write a project diary that clearly highlights the tasks handled within the project and which of these tasks the student in question is responsible.Literature
In most cases handouts and manuals will be used. More detailed information will be given on the homepage of the courseExamination including compulsory elements
The course examination is done through judgment of the different parts of the project and an individual grade is given of the scale not accepted or, if accepted, grade 3 - 5. To set the grade each project group will be given a base grade of the entire work. Starting from this grade each student will be evaluated and may be given a higher or lower individual grade. The get grade 3 the project has to be accomplished according to the given demands. The student have to participate in the compulsory lectures, actively take part in all parts of the project like construction work, writing of the project diary and the written report and in the oral presentation. If a project group or an individual participant doesn-t pass the exam directions will be given on what additional work that is needed to get a grade. The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
