Course specific prerequisites

Management and organisation in the construction sector (BOM225) or equivalent.

Aim

In the construction sector much work is done within projects with many actors involved. This is a challenge in terms of leadership and cooperation. The course aims at giving the student good knowledge about the leadership role and cooperation within groups. The course highlights theories and practice about leadership and on how cooperative and efficient teams are created.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

After the course the student should be able to:
- Account for and explain different perspectives and theories regarding leadership. - Suggest examples on the complexity of leadership and describe different types of leadership. - Account for and explain different perspectives and theories regarding in-group- and between group cooperation. - Identify emerging conflicts and be able to provide a positive solution. - Identify, distinguish and handle gender- and diversity perspectives concerning leadership and cooperation.

Content

The course contains both theoretical elements as well a s practical elements in where the students is given the opportunity to practice leading as well as experience teamwork. The course is based on behavioral science theories.

Organisation

The course consists of lectures and seminars. In the the seminars (compulsory) we discuss and demonstrate a series of factors that are of importance for effective teamwork, and leadership.

The examination consists of a written test. To pass, the student need also have been taking part in the obligatory seminars.

The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
