Eligibility

General entry requirements for bachelor's level (first cycle)

Specific entry requirements

The specific entry requirements are the same as for the programme the course is taken within

Course specific prerequisites

The Degree project may be commenced after successfully passed courses of 120 hec (Higher Education Credits). Specific courses necessary for the particular project must be passed before the work begins. The Degree project's scheme, as well as its participants, must be approved by the tutor before work is begun.

Aim

In the Degree project the student shall integrate, deepen and expand his or her knowledge within a restricted area of what has been previously studied at courses within the course programme. The purpose of the Degree project is also for the student to gain a broad understanding and skills in engineering and scientific work methods, as well as provide training to independently formulate and solve a more comprehensive engineering problem.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

  • acquire and apply advanced knowledge within the field of the engineering program, including deeper insight into current development,
  • with a comprehensive view, independently and creatively, formulate and handle issues and analyze and evaluate different technical solutions,
  • plan and use appropriate methods to perform tasks within given constraints,
  • critically and systematically use knowledge to model, simulate, predict and evaluate events on the basis of relevant information,
  • within the framework of the project be able to identify issues regarding the role of technology in society, such as environmental and ethical aspects and
  • orally and in writing explain and discuss information, problems and solutions.
The learning objectives for a Degree project are based on the objectives for a Bachelor of Science formulated in Chalmers local Guidelines for Examinations (Dnr C2007/723).

The overall goal of the Degree project is that the student shall demonstrate the knowledge and ability that is required to work independently as an engineer.

Content

See "Föreskrifter för examensarbete vid högskoleingenjörsprogram vid Chalmers tekniska högskola" (Dnr C2010/743).

Organisation

The work is preferably carried out in groups of two students but it can also be performed individually. For further information, see "Föreskrifter för examensarbete vid högskoleingenjörsprogram vid Chalmers tekniska högskola" (Dnr C2010/743).

Literature

Literature search of relevance to the Degree project.

Examination including compulsory elements

  • Approved planning report
  • Project report
  • Approved presentation and defense of the thesis
  • Approved opposition on another Degree project
  • Attendance at two other thesis presentations
Grading: Pass/Fail

The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
