Courses KTK111 Chemistry for engineers and UCM010 Introduction to cell and molecular biology

Aim

The aim of the course is to give a fundamental understanding of central metabolic pathways and their regulation. In addition, students learn methods that are utilized in modern molecular biology and enzyme technology, and for studies of biological macromolecules like RNA and proteins. Together with KTK111, UCM010 and BBT035 the course gives prerequisite knowledge for following courses given in MPBIO

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

Describe and understand how ATP is formed in different biological systems

Understand the basic thermodynamic principles that governs life

Understand and use modern techniques to study and manipulate DNA, RNA and proteins
