Aim

The course aims to give students an overall picture of a refurbishment projects different stages such as investigation and design stage (product design) and also to give an orientation about maintenance (management process) and refurbishment (production)

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

- Describe and use concepts of refurbishment process.
- Explain and describe the property management requirements for the design and archive documents.
- List and analyse a refurbishment project conditions.
- Propose a drawn solution to the brief based on refurbishment project conditions. 
- Develop their skills with regard to drawing and oral presentation. 
- Describe and evaluate own and others' proposals.
- Identify and describe the operation and maintenance needs of a building.
- Explain and select the appropriate methods for the inspection and control of buildings.
- Explain and select the appropriate methods of operation and maintenance measures .

Content

In addition to the usual construction process will be specifically for refurbishment to measure and inventory of part of a building as well as documenting the building's technical, historical and environmental values. Important is that the student can understand the the framework and regulations that apply regarding refurbishment.
Basic conditions for the maintenance of buildings and definitions and concepts within the subject is introduced. Study of a building with respect to operations and maintenance.

The project work is performed in groups.
Lectures, literature studies, seminars, exercises and tutorials adapted to current problems / projects

Literature adapts to the study object and is announced before the start of the course

Examination including compulsory elements

It provides no exam in the course.
To pass the course requires approved project work and presence on the study, criticism, introductions and briefings. Project work is assessed with the grades U, 3, 4 and 5.

The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
