Course specific prerequisites
SwedishAim
The course aims for student in year 2 and 3 in the bachelor program to develop knowledge of and skills in digital design, representation and fabrication that further develop skills that were introduced in ARK452.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- to deploy digital pgorams for spatial and artistic exploration at different scales from building design to urban space- to use different methods for work with digital tools for the production of physical models.
- to use, analyze and compare digital and analogue methpds and different forms of visual, material and other forms of communication.
- to have the ability to work with a range of digital tools, digital manufacturing machines and and analogue media in architectural design.
- have the ability to analyze, value and transform forms of representations to develop a design concept.
- to have the ability to present the result with the aid of different forms of representation as drawings, diagram and physical model.
Content
The course trains students in digital design and develop earlier skills and abilities in the area. Digital design refers particularly to tools and methods as well as representation (communication), transformation of digital information and the personal ability to develop a design idea by the combination of these techniques. The course focuses in digital design work that is addressing a simple architectural design task. More complex architectural tasks and assignments will come in later courses.
Organisation
The course has a workshop-like organization with lectures, seminars and demonstrations. The design task is carried out in groups. The structure of the course requires good attendance.Examination including compulsory elements
The students are examined by passing attendance in the different parts of the course For a passing mark active participation and a passing presentation of the course assignments and design investigation according to the course program. For a passing mark participation at the final critique and the student exhibition are also required. If the result is not considered as a pass in the course, then supplementation must be completed in accordance to written instructions and assessed in the next subsequent re-examination period. If this primary supplementation does not result in a pass and further supplementation is then required, this will also be notified in writing. This secondary supplementation will be assessed in the subsequent re-examination period. If the additions are then not deemed sufficient for passing the course, the course should be retaken. The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
