Aim

This course gives an introduction to Nordic and especially Swedish architecture and town planning with emphasis on its social and cultural context.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

At the completion of the course, each student should be able to describe some aspects of Nordic architecture, its conditions and character. Also to describe a number of Nordic architects and buildings and relate them to a cultural and historical context.

Content

The course introduces architecture from the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden). A selection of movements, buildings, projects and writings will be presented in national, inter-Nordic and international contexts and will be discussed in relation to tendencies of the time.

Organisation

The course is based on lectures, seminars, study visits and exercises.

To pass it is required to participate in an active way in the different course activities.
