Specific entry requirements
The same as for the programme that owns the course.Applicants enrolled in a programme at Chalmers where the course is included in the study programme are exempted from fulfilling the requirements above.
Course specific prerequisites
Basic skills in modeling, visualization and graphic communication corresponding to the course ARK093 Digital Tools.Aim
The course practices the use of physical models as a means in an investigative design process. In particular, the interaction between digital models, digitally controlled manufacturing tools and physical prototypes is dealt with.Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)
- Translate a digital 3D model into a representation suitable for digital machine programming.
- Generate a program/code for the digital fabrication machine using a dedicated programming language.
- Set up and quality-control a digital simulation of the fabrication process.
- Combine digital, analog and manual techniques to produce a physical architectural model.
Content
The course is based on a chosen theme that is investigated using digital design and manufacturing processes. In an exploratory work, students are trained to use different digital and physical tools and to operate their own design process.Organisation
The course will be organized around workshops, lectures and seminars. The students are expected to develop their ideas and proposals in the form of digital and physical model building.Examination including compulsory elements
To pass requires active participation in lectures, laboratory work, seminars and criticism as well as reported and approved models. The course syllabus contains changes
