The Magnetic Materials Laboratory is a research facility providing basic and advanced instruments for the characterization, manipulation, and development of novel magnetic materials.
Magnets Everywhere, Never Off!
Please contact us for more information about the possibilites to participate in our laboratory environment. Check the list below for available equipment:
Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM)
An instrument used to measure the magnetic properties of materials, the VSM operates within a magnetic field range of ±2.6 Tesla and a temperature range from 100 K to 950 K, with a sensitivity of 10⁻⁷ emu. It can measure a wide range of samples, including bulk materials, nanoparticles, thin films, and liquids. The VSM also has the capability to measure properties at different angles, which is particularly useful for materials exhibiting anisotropic behavior, such as 2D materials and thin films.
Halbach Array Magnets
Specialized magnet configurations produce homogeneous magnetic fields, available at 0.5 Tesla and 1 Tesla strengths. These magnets are highly useful for a range of applications, including direct magnetocaloric measurements, sample alignment, and magnetoelectrochemistry.
Rotating Magnetic Field Facility
A setup capable of generating rotating magnetic fields with adjustable field strength and frequency, it is particularly useful for aligning nanoparticles and 2D materials, and other applications requiring controlled dynamic magnetic fields.
Multipurpose Power Supply
A versatile power supply unit with a voltage range of up to 150 V and a current capacity of up to 10 A, it is used for experiments such as magnetic cooling prototypes and electrochemical studies.
Additional Equipment
Other available instruments include a Gauss meter for precise magnetic field measurements, a collection of permanent magnets of varying sizes and strengths for diverse experimental applications, a mechanical stirrer for mixing solutions and suspensions, a thermal camera for non-contact temperature imaging, a temperature data logger for recording thermal variations, and an analytical balance for precise mass measurements.
