We work with new solutions for what you see, and what you don't see but experience, use and depend on in your home and in the built environment surrounding you. From underground structures, waste, water, sewage and indoor environment to transport systems, infrastructure and planning & design of buildings and cities. Our ambition is to inspire and motivate the addressing and solving of global, societal challenges for the built environment in new and responsible ways.

Collaborate with us
Close collaboration with public authorities, municipalities, businesses, and civil society is essential for the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering (ACE). By working together, we can contribute to a sustainable built environment – and to do that, joint knowledge development, knowledge sharing and validation of new approaches, materials, techniques and materials in practice is the key.

Meet our alumni
Our alumni from graduate and postgraduate education contribute in shaping the built society of the future. Meet some of our graduated doctors and find out more about their specific research focus and how they experienced their time at Chalmers!

Visit our labs
We conduct extensive experimental activities and our research and teaching labs are a prerequisite for the work in many of our research projects as well as in teaching.

Research Areas
The department represents a broad field of knowledge theory ranging from engineering science to social science to the humanities and design-based, artistic research. These different perspectives enable strong interdisciplinary development and a broader discussion of different aspects of sustainability. Together, we are well equipped to take on challenges in the pursuit of a sustainable society.
