Master thesis wins international price

Chalmers students Ebba Barkfors and Jennie Bergman won the Charité special prize for their master thesis on how architecture can support recovery and reduce stress for hospital staff.

The European Network Architecture for Health (ENAH) in collaboration with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin hands out the Charité Special Prize to a student work with exceptional focus on sustainable hospital planning.

Motivation of the jury:
"The project addresses a very pressing and relevant issue in healthcare: the stress of hospital staff. It shows the realistic and sensitively considered potential of an existing campus to contribute to the sustainability of a hospital by providing staff with a stress-reducing and healthy environment."

About the award:
ENAH is committed to enhance the sustainability of healthcare systems by integrating knowledge from urban planning, architecture, medical technologies, public health and health economics. Among its several activities, ENAH is granting the Architecture for Health Student Award.

The Architecture for Health Student Award honors outstanding master theses on the theme of Architecture for Health. The prize is intended to promote work in the field of architecture & urban planning for health and to encourage students to engage in this important topic. The work should show a strong engagement with current health care issues.

Charité Special Prize
In collaboration with the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one student work with exceptional focus on sustainable hospital planning will receive special recognition.
