Chalmers has the best education in Europe, according to the survey International student barometer, which annually maps out international students’ experiences at their institutions.

Particularly, students at Chalmers are satisfied with the course content, how the courses are structured, the feedback from the teachers, and the quality of the lecturers.

"We have a highly competent teaching staff with roots in both innovative research and the engineering profession. We also utilise a pedagogy where students learn collaboratively to a great extent, for example, in group projects, and not least, a systematic quality improvement effort to constantly better ourselves. It is gratifying that this is reflected in our students' views of us" says Jörgen Blennow, Vice President at Education and Lifelong Learning.

Students at Chalmers are also more satisfied with their guest lecturers compared to other Swedish institutions. They also feel that it is easy to make contact with future employers during their studies.

"For us, it's only natural that our education evolves in collaboration with the industry, for instance, by including external members in our programme boards and through our strategic partnerships. Together with the contributions from the Student Union, including job-focused groups and events like the Charm fair, our linkage to the professional world becomes unparalleled" says Jörgen Blennow.

Reception activities best in Sweden

According to the survey, the support from Chalmers' Student Union is also the best in Europe. Furthermore, the reception activities for international students at Chalmers are the best in Sweden and highly ranked compared to other institutions in Europe.

"Having such an active and significant first week at Chalmers and in Gothenburg helped me to let go of my social anxiety and really set the tone and atmosphere for the rest of my time here," says Amalia Athanasia Dimou from Greece, who is studying architecture.

When it comes to areas for improvement, the survey shows that students want a better introduction to student associations right from the start. Other aspects that can be improved include opportunities for part-time jobs alongside studies and making it easier to form friendships with both international and Swedish students.

The last time Chalmers participated in the survey was in 2018. Even then, the answers indicated that the education and student union were considered as the best in Europe by the students, which means that Chalmers consistently maintains a high standard in the survey.

Over 700 international students from Chalmers participated in the survey. The results are based on responses from 122,975 international students across 155 universities and colleges from 25 countries at the end of 2023.
