Land use and construction on and below ground deals with natural resources, resource flows, land use, material extraction and sustainable ecosystems. It is also about climate adaptation, as well as planning and building for climate change, reducing the risk of natural disasters such as floods and landslides.

We aim to measure, analyse and understand the effects of different measures in agriculture, forestry, land use and construction. The profile also covers areas of geology and geotechnics related to construction, including monitoring techniques and remote sensing, as well as resource use and ecosystem services..

Linked to United Nations Goals of Sustainable Development

This profile is linked to several of the goals of sustainable development, set by the United Nations:

  • SDG 9: Sustainable Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: sustainable construction of resilient infrastructure;
  • SDG: 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities: sustainable construction and planning of housing, infrastructure and transport, and recycling of soil materials;
  • SDG 13: Combating Climate Change: reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing climate resilience;
  • SDG 15: Ecosystems and Biodiversity: conserving forests, combating desertification and halting biodiversity loss.<
