BioFINE – BioFunctional IntraNeural Electrodes

The BioFINE project aims to enhance biocompatibility of such intraneural electrodes so that they function better in contact with the patient’s own nervous system and over longer time. We are working with sophisticated micro- and nanofabrication processes combined with chemical engineering of the surfaces of the implant which helps to modulate the foreign body response.

BioFINE project starts

The BioFINE project, funded by the European Innovation Council within the HORIZON-EIC-2022-PATHFINDEROPEN program, aims to enhance biocompatibility of intraneural electrodes for bionic limbs as a multi-dimensional chemical-engineering challenge.

Project BioFINE to improve bionic prostheses

The Group of Neuroplasticity and Regeneration of the UAB, led by Professor Xavier Navarro, participates in the European project BioFINE (BioFunctional IntraNeural Electrodes). The aim is to enhance biocompatibility of intraneural electrodes for bionic limbs as a multi-dimensional bio-chemical-engineering challenge.

In BioFINE we will develop flexible intraneural multielectrode arrays, capable of interfacing peripheral nerves e.g. to transfer input/output signals from bionic limbs.
