Collaborations and utilization

A genuine business interest and a desire to develop a more efficient and sustainable energy system encourages Göteborg Energi to be an active partner in the co-operative activities of the CPP.
“We obtain access to new knowledge that we can use in our existing facilities and in those that we will build and buy in the future. This knowledge cannot be purchased off the shelf. In addition, we get a very good and knowledgeable collaborator that we can consult when making different decisions”, says Bengt Göran Dalman, who is Business Area Director at Göteborg Energi.

A historical perspective

The story of the Chalmers Power Central (CPC) begins in 1947 when the first boilers were built, although it was only after the oil crisis of the 1970s that the research program really took off. Professor Bo Leckner was the driving force behind efforts to find partners who would invest time and money in new boilers.
“One can count publications and scientific citations, but the important thing is if someone reaps the benefit of what we do. Then it's good. Then we have succeeded”, says Bo Leckner.

The story behind the CPP

The spirit of open collaboration at the CPC brings together researchers, industrial actors, and the public sector to contribute to a climate-neutral future.
“The research conducted here has helped Sweden to move from dependence on oil to establishing an extensive district heating sector based on biomass”, says Henrik Thunman, who has overall responsibility for the CPC and is the Head on the Division of Energy Technology at Chalmers.
