Dynamic Positioning (DP) is used extensively in the offshore industry to carry out sophisticated operations over time, where there are requirements for high positional accuracy.
Mechanics and Maritima Sciences has invested in simulators that are used for training and simulation within Dynamic Positioning (DP), in order to meet the increased interest from our students and from the industry.
Initially, the simulators are used to give the Nautical Institute accredited courses "DP Basic" and "DP Advance", which is part of the training to become DP Operator (DPO). The simulators can also be used for different types of operations analyses, and can even support research in advanced marine operations and training for these. The simulators are made by Kongsberg and consist of an Advanced Trainer with full set up for the DP II, and five Desktop Trainers.
