Aim

The purpose of the course is to expand your knowledge of strategic thinking and leadership in a global and digital world. The course gives you an overview of how digitization and digital transformation have created profound changes in value-creating activities of companies, industries and society in recent years as well as an insight into how these can affect value creation in the future.In particular, the course focuses on four themes:
1) leadership,
2) societal & business transformation,
3) emerginge technologies, and
4) future scenarios.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

Related to knowledge and understanding, you should be able to:
1. Understand and account for basic concepts such as digital innovation, digitalization, and digital transformation
2. Understand how digitization and digital transformation influence organizations and the foundations of competition as well as the structure of society

Related to skills and abilities, the student should be able to:
3. Acquire basic information about digital technologies or digital technology solutions and present and argue for a so-called business case around the same

Related to analytical skills, the student should be able to:
4. Evaluate and describe how digitalization and digital transformation can influence business models and strategy as well as value creation in society today and in the future
5. Critically evaluate and discuss digital technology and technical systems in relation to organizational characteristics and the structure of society

Content

Knowledge of digital technology, digitalization, and digital transformation is necessary to understand how leaders can best position their organization to create opportunities and tackle challenges in this new world.In a world characterized by complexity and uncertainty and where boundaries are constantly being blurred, it is important to understand the opportunities and challenges of digitization and digital transformation.

The course is organized around the four themes above for which there are corresponding lectures, seminars, and a live  case project.

Organisation

The course will be given in the form of lectures, guest lectures, seminars, and a live case. These may include practical examples and demonstrations.

Examination including compulsory elements

Project work and a final written exam.

The course examiner may assess individual students in other ways than what is stated above if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if a student has a decision from Chalmers on educational support due to disability.
