The "Green Cement" course is an inclusive, project-based learning experience open to students, professionals, and industry practitioners at all levels. It focuses on the sustainable transformation of cement production, exploring its history, current challenges, and innovative pathways to achieving carbon neutrality. 

Participants in the course will engage in a major project, broken down into smaller tasks that allow each individual to contribute their unique skills and knowledge. These tasks will be integrated to address a broader challenge, fostering collaboration and mutual learning among all participants. The course emphasizes active learning through hands-on activities such as literature reviews, modeling, and experimental work, enabling everyone to tailor their experience according to their interests.

Through this course, participants will gain practical insights into sustainable practices in cement production, develop the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to more environmentally friendly construction practices.

General information

This dynamic, project-based course spans two study periods and is tailored to individual interests and expertise. Structured into three modules, each lasting five weeks. Each module begins with a week of engaging lunch lectures, followed by four weeks of immersive project work. Active learning and collaboration are central to this course, where individual tasks can be combined into larger projects to foster teamwork and deepen understanding. The course adapts to students' backgrounds, promoting comprehensive and applied knowledge.

Several national and international lecturers will accompany the examiner in lecturing and a team of PhD candidates and post-doctoral fellows will assist in supervising practicalities of the project works. 

Prerequisites

All level Chalmers students and alumni as well as external students or professionals who are interested in the topic of green cementitious materials from perspectives of civil engineering, materials science, material engineering and mineral binders are welcome in this multidisciplinary course.

Application is open from Nov 12 – Nov 26 at universityadmissions.se (or antagning.se for corresponding webpage in Swedish).​Search for TRA450 (the course title in Swedish is “Grön Cement”). You will be asked to upload a motivation letter not longer than half of one A4 page.
