Victor Torres-Company
Professor, Microtechnology and Nanoscience, Photonics Laboratory
Victor Torres-Company is Professor at the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2) and group leader of the Integrated Ultrafast Photonics group at Chalmers University of Technology. He obtained the PhD from the University of Valencia, Spain (2008), for which he won the Best Thesis award. Before joining Chalmers in 2012 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Photonics Systems group in McGill University, Canada, and later a Marie Curie Research Fellow at Purdue University, USA. Victor’s expertise is on laser frequency comb science and technology, nonlinear integrated optics and fiber-optic communications. He has co-authored more than 100 papers in leading optics journals. He has been awarded twice a Marie Curie Fellowship and was the recipient of a European Research Council Consolidator grant. For his PhD work, he won the Best Thesis award.

Krishna's research interests include microcombs and electronic-photonic integration as well as coherent fiber-optic communications. When time allows, he likes to do some trekking and watching (not playing) soccer.

Niklas Hammerschmidt
MSc. University of Applied Sciences Cologne
Niklas joined the Integrated Ultrafast Photonics group as an industrial PhD Student in September 2024. He received his M.Sc. in mechanical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences, Cologne in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute of Laser Technology, Aachen. His research interests at Chalmers are octave-spanning microcombs for chip-scale optical clock technologies. His hobbies are designing and building lasers, but also hiking and fishing.
Niklas is co-supervised by Victor Torres Company and Martin Zelan (RISE).

Tim Fuhrmann
MSc. Technical University of Darmstadt
Tim joined the Ultrafast Photonics Group in May 2024. Tim's research focuses on octave spanning microcombs. He received his B.Sc and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from the University of Darmstadt (Germany) in 2021 and 2024, respectively. Moreover, he holds an M.Sc degree in Physical Engineering for Photonics and Microelectronics from the Grenoble (France) Institutes of Engineering and Management. In his free time, Tim likes to play and watch football, run and play tennis.

Vijay Shekhawat
MSc. Technical University of Denmark
Vijay completed his Bachelors degree (Nanotechnology) in 2020 from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, India and his M.Sc. (Photonics Engineering) in 2022 from Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He joined the Ultrafast Photonics Lab in September 2022. His research topic is developing parametric amplifiers on silicon nitride integrated photonics platform. He will work on the simulation of waveguides as well as their nanofabrication. Vijay is co-supervised by Victor Torres Company and Peter Andrekson.

Carmen Lopez
MSc Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México
Carmen joined the Ultrafast Photonics Lab as a PhD student in 2022. She received her BSc degree in Telecommunications Engineering and MSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM). Her research topic is microcombs for coherent optical communication systems.

Sara Persia
MSc. Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden
Sara joined the Ultrafast Photonics group at Chalmers University of Technology as a Ph.D. student in September 2022. She received her B.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics at Polytechnic University of Turin (Italy) in 2020 and her M.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics – Quantum Technologies at Royal Institute of Technology KTH (Stockholm, Sweden) in 2022. Her main topic of research is quantum information processing using ultra-low loss nanophotonics devices. Her project is about the investigation of the quantum properties of microcombs generated from silicon nitride microring resonators.

Yi Sun
MSc. Zhejiang University, China
Yi is a PhD student in the Ultrafast Photonics Laboratory. She graduated from Zhejiang University (China) in March 2021. Her research topic is the heterogeneous integration of ultralow-linewidth lasers and microcombs on the silicon nitride platform. She is learning all nanofabrication techniques for the ultra-low-loss silicon nitride waveguides and ultra-high-Q microresonators, and is constructing hybrid lasers based on microtransfer printing technology.

Yan Gao
MSc. Zhejiang University, China
Yan Gao gained his master degree in optical engineering from Zhejiang university, China. Now he works as a Ph.D. student in the department Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2), Chalmers. His research interests include on chip high-speed lithium niobate modulators, optical and microwave cavities, nonlinear optics and their applications. In his Ph.D. project, he mainly works with thin-film lithium niobate platform and his work include device design and nanofabrication.
Yan is co-supervised by Jochen Schröder and Victor Torres Company.
