The research within Road-user Behaviour: Analysis and Modelling examines and models how road users behave and interact with each other in order to safely carry out their journeys.
Within CAP (Crash Analysis and Prevention) this research core-area investigates and models how road users behave and interact with each other to complete their journeys safely. Currently, we focus on drivers, cyclists, and micro-mobility users and their interaction with automated vehicles. Our models leverage data collected in virtual environments (e.g. driving simulators) and in the real world (e.g. naturalistic and test-track data).
Our work is rooted in cognitive science and neuroscience and combines engineering, artificial intelligence, and human factors.
Our research informs the development and evaluation of active safety systems and automated vehicles. Our results support policy makers and road authorities in their decision making.
