Research in maritime operations focuses, among other things, on modeling and predicting optimal voyage planning for autonomous operations.
Optimal voyage planning
Automation and decision support systems are everywhere, also in ships. With currents and waves and the time it takes to change direction of a large vessel at sea there are several challenges to cope with. To enable autonomous operation, this needs to be modelled and predicted. We use both physical models and AI to make this possible. Further, we work with developing the tools needed to choose the best route depending on weather, or as is the case in the Arctic, ice conditions, both to reduce cost of operation, emissions, and risk of accidents.
