Two universities - one department

Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is a joint department between Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg (GU). We have about 80 employees at the University of Gothenburg and about 220 at Chalmers. Either or, you are a part of CSE - an integrated department.

Onboarding - your first weeks at CSE

Important steps upon arrival to Sweden 

  • Register with the Tax Agency and personal identify number
  • Register at the Swedish Social Insurance Agency
  • Apply for Identity card
  • Taxation
  • Set up bank account (recommended before arrival)

You can also seek assistans at Järntorget Service Center where you can get help using digital services, filling in forms and applications, order a new ID card and use the “Moving to Sweden” service. 

Username and password

When employed at the department you will receive a username, also called Chalmers ID (CID). Used together with a password this will give you access to Chalmers computer systems, including the Intranet. You will also receive a so called X-account for access to GU´s Staff Portal. 

Intranet

Chalmers intranet and GU´s Staff Portal is your gateway to essential information and resources. Here, you'll find information about your employment, the tools and support available to you, organization's structure, contact information, latest news, and calendar of events. 

Chalmers intranet is accessible only to those with a Chalmers ID and to access the University of Gothenburg's Staff Portal you need your X-account to reach certain information.

As soon as you gain access, it is important that you read up on the Introduction for new employees at Chalmers or New at work - a staff introduction at GU.

Administrative support

The departments administrative support provides service to employees within finance, HR, communication, internal service and department administration. Every division has a administrator and a finance officer.

  • Your division administrator is your first point of contact in terms of contract, keys, access card etc.
  • The division finance officer is your point of contact in regards to finance, project no, budget, travelling
  • The infra/technical team helps you with purchasing of technical equipment
  • Communication officers administrates the weekly newsletter and helps you with communicative support
