Industrial recycling was started by an investment by Stena Metall. Recycling is an important step towards a sustainable society. Battery recycling was one of the focus areas from the start and then, due to the expertise existing in house at the time, using mainly the hydrochemical processing route. As the societal importance of the area became more evident it was possible to enlarge and widen the scope of the group to also include pyrochemical and super critical fluid techniques. Our research projects include projects in the recycling of batteries, WEEE (electronic waste), car exhaust catalysts, smoke detectors and other items containing precious metals or REM. The investigation and recovery of metals from ash from incineration of municipal waste is another area of research in Industrial Materials Recycling.
The work comprises the full range from fundamental science to pilot scale process development using in-house equipment.
The research of Industrial Materials Recycling is a part of the Competence Centre for recycling (CCR).
