Research grant to Anders Södergren

A research grant of 30 000 euro from Ruth and Nils-Erik Stenbäck Foundation has been awarded to Anders Södergren, associate professor in the division of Algebra and Geometry.

Portrait of Anders Södergren

Anders Södergren’s research is focused on problems in analytic number theory and a large part of his work deals with L-functions and the distribution of their zeros. L-functions are a particular kind of generating functions which are connected to various kinds of mathematical objects (for example number fields, curves and modular forms) and their zeros are important in many number theoretic problems.

Recently, Anders has been particularly interested in L-functions attached to number fields. His work has required the development of new methods in the intersection of analytic number theory and arithmetic statistics, and has, among other things, led to new results for counting functions of cubic number fields.

Ruth and Nils-Erik Stenbäck Foundation annually awards research grants to young Finnish and Swedish researchers for scientifically advanced research in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy and space science. The grant recipients are selected in collaboration with The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and the grant is awarded in connection with The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters’s anniversary in Helsinki on April 29.
