Hydrogen Technologies Research at Johnson Matthey

Abstract:

Johnson Matthey (JM) has been active in the research and development of fuel cells for well over 20 years, including direct methanol fuel fells, phosphoric acid fuel cells and H2-fed PEM fuel cells. More recently, PEM electrolyser technology has been developed with the aim, as in the fuel cell domain, of supplying high performance, highly durable Catalyst Coated Membranes (CCMs) to stack developers.  JM is probably unique in being an in-house manufacturer of catalysts, membranes and CCMs.  This talk will cover some of the rationale for working on these topics and give a flavour of the types of chemistry, materials and electrochemistry research we are involved with.
