Artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) have made substantial progress over the past years, with applications in a wide range of industries and areas. Network automation and optical networks are among the areas where several use cases can take advantage of different aspects of AI/ML. In this talk, we will discuss the main use cases where optical network automation takes advantage of AI/ML, exploring which solutions are used. Then, a few open challenges and existing questions will be discussed.
