Multi-mode mechanical systems provide a unique venue to study topological and many-body phenomena, with the potential to probe effects in quantum regimes. I will discuss theoretical work from my group on this general topic that makes use of the basic tool of mechanical parametric driving to realize systems that are a bosonic version of the Kitaev chain p-wave superconductor, to interacting models that can exhibit dissipative phase transitions with quantum features.
