WACQT has the goal to build a broad competence base for Quantum Technology in Sweden. We therefore welcome all Swedish PhD students within the broad field of quantum technology to apply for affiliation with the WACQT Graduate School, independent on financing. As a WACQT PhD student you become a member of a large Swedish quantum technology community.
An affiliated WACQT PhD student is requested to meet the same requirements as PhD students directly financed by WACQT, namely:
- Take at least 15 hp, or credit points, of quantum technology courses during the PhD-studies.
- Take the WACQT lab course, 6 hp (counts towards the 15 hp).
- Attend the bi-annual summer schools.
- Attend the field trips to visit other quantum technology sites.
- Attend the WACQT annual meetings.
After having graduated, WACQT research school will issue a certificate that the PhD student has fulfilled all requirements as a WACQT PhD student.
To apply for affiliation, the PhD-student is asked to send a short description of their thesis project and the supervisor is asked to send a mail stating their support for the affiliation. Send information to the school director.
Open Culture:
In the WACQT community, sharing research progress, including partial and unpublished results, is crucial for fostering synergies and collaborations. Acknowledging others' ideas builds trust. The community includes all scientists funded by WACQT and the affiliates.
We emphasize the importance of community building through our annual meetings and activities in the Graduate School and Guest Researcher Programme. Collaboration across disciplines and group borders is vital for research success, encouraging all researchers to work together. Annual Topical Scientific Meetings at each academic node showcase progress and foster collaboration, with PhD students leading these events. Annual Meetings with Researchers and Start-ups clarify relationships between spin-offs and research environments, promoting joint projects.
Actions for seniors and management include mentoring juniors on open science, participating in panel discussions, and improving diversity in seminars. For juniors, it's important to demand discussions with seniors and self-organise to propose actions. IPR-related disclosures and Intro to IPR in Sweden are managed by Cristina Andersson, who provides guidance on intellectual property rights and sideline activities. Researchers must disclose patent applications and new spin-off companies to Cristina, ensuring transparency and collaboration within WACQT.
